As the job market continues to evolve, qualifications alone are no longer enough to secure employment. Employers are increasingly looking for graduates who understand workplace expectations, can build professional networks and are ready to adapt to changing industries.

Recognising this need, Botho University Eswatini recently hosted its Employability Fair 2026, giving students a valuable opportunity to connect directly with the people shaping the country’s workforce.

The fair brought together employers, industry leaders, exhibitors and career professionals under one roof, creating a platform where students could explore career opportunities, learn about different industries and gain first hand insights into what employers are looking for in graduates.

Beyond showcasing employment opportunities, the event encouraged meaningful conversations between students and professionals. Attendees were able to ask questions about career paths, recruitment processes and the skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive workplace. For many students, it was an opportunity to build confidence, expand their professional networks and gain a clearer understanding of the transition from university to employment.Employability fairs have become an important part of higher education as institutions seek to ensure graduates leave with more than academic knowledge. By exposing students to industry expectations before graduation, universities help prepare them for the realities of the workplace while encouraging them to develop both technical and soft skills.

Throughout the event, exhibitors and employers highlighted the growing importance of communication, teamwork, adaptability, digital literacy and problem solving. These qualities continue to rank among the most sought-after skills by employers across a wide range of sectors, making them just as valuable as academic qualifications. The success of the fair reflected the strength of collaboration between academia and industry.

Employers gained an opportunity to engage with emerging talent, while students were able to explore internships, graduate opportunities and potential career pathways.

Botho University expressed its appreciation to the exhibitors, industry partners, employers, guest speakers and students whose participation contributed to the success of the event.

Their collective involvement reinforced the university’s commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically prepared, but also equipped with the skills, connections and confidence needed to thrive in the modern workplace.
