MBABANE – Information technology and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) consultancy Datamatics Eswatini is continuing its growth trajectory after being appointed to lead data collection for ESWACAA’s ambitious airport development strategy.

The company, which was crowned Entrepreneur of the Year in 2025, has been entrusted with gathering critical data that will inform the Eswatini Civil Aviation Authority’s (ESWACAA) Inclusive Business Development Strategy Framework for King Mswati III International Airport.

The framework seeks to transform the airport from a traditional airport authority into what ESWACAA describes as a leading integrated aviation economic hub in Southern Africa.

The strategy is targeting an estimated E12 billion in investment and the creation of up to 20 000 jobs, making the quality and reliability of the data collected a critical component of the planning process.

Datamatics’ appointment represents another major step for the locally owned technology and data management company, which has been operating in Eswatini for more than a decade.

Founded in 2012, the company operates under the full directorship of emaSwati and specialises in information technology services and Geographic Information Systems.

Its work is centred around data management, with the company operating under the slogan: “Making Superior Data Management Available and Affordable to All.”

ESWACAA’s strategy is built around the idea of positioning KMIII International Airport as more than transport infrastructure, with the airport potentially serving as a platform for investment, logistics, manufacturing, trade and other economic activities.

For such a transformation to be commercially viable, accurate information on the existing economic environment and potential opportunities will be essential.

Datamatics’ expertise in IT and GIS therefore puts the company in a position to contribute to the evidence base required for the strategy.

GIS technology allows information to be linked to geographic locations, making it possible to analyse and visualise economic activity, infrastructure, markets and other spatial information.

For the airport strategy, such data could assist in identifying opportunities and understanding how different economic activities relate to the airport and surrounding areas.

The assignment also demonstrates the growing role of local technology companies in providing specialised services for major national development initiatives.
