MBABANE – A capital tug-of-war is looming.

The race for the signature of Nsingizini Hotspurs striker Sambulo ‘Masoso’ Simelane has taken a dramatic turn, with Mbabane Highlanders reportedly joining city rivals Mbabane Swallows in a high-stakes pursuit of the former Sihlangu star.

While the ‘Birds’ were initially thought to be the front-runners to bring the lanky striker to their nest, sources indicate that the ‘Black Bull’ has entered the fray, setting the stage for a sensational mid-season transfer battle.

The reports have surfaced as the mid-season transfer window prepares to open. According to an official circular from the Eswatini Football Association (EFA), the second registration window will run from January 8 to February 2, 2026.

Insiders reveal that Swallows’ Head Coach Caleb ‘No Nonsense’ Ngwenya has drafted a shortlist of targets to bolster his squad. Topping that list is the duo of Simelane and the versatile Thabo Langa. Swallows are also reportedly monitoring Nsingizini’s fast-improving attacker Mvuselelo Mthethwa, who recently netted the winner against Sisonkhe.

Swallows Public Relations Officer (PRO) Knowledge ‘Bhambo’ Ngwenya confirmed the club’s intent to strengthen.

“It is that time of year when all teams want to beef up their squads, and we will be doing the same. We will be bolstering all departments.”

Highlanders’ PRO Khayelihle ‘Karas’ Dlamini confirmed that the black and white capital city giants are currently in talks with several players, but he was quick to highlight that their identities would remain confidential for now.

“Some of the players we are interested in are still contracted to their teams, and revealing their names would be disrespectful,” the former Highlanders crowd-pleaser said.
