The leading schools from the Sibitelo Nemisebe 2025 regional heats are now preparing to shine on the national stage. Fuelled by talent, pride and an unwavering passion for siSwati, these rising stars are set to make history as they compete for the ultimate honour.
Eswatini’s premier siSwati spelling competition, Sibitelo Nemisebe 2025, has triumphantly concluded its regional heats, paving the stage for highly anticipated national final. Held annually, the event is organised by Imisebe Publishing in collaboration with Technosol and UNESCO. It proudly celebrates and promotes the siSwati language while nurturing technological skills among young learners across the nation.
Manzini
The regional heats in Manzini showcased exceptional talent, culminating in Mkhondvo being crowned the regional champion. Their hard fought victory over Gundvwini High School, with a narrow score of 38 to 33, underscores the impact of dedicated preparation.
Mkhondvo’s win was driven by strategic answering and confident responses, positioning them as a formidable contender for the national title
Hhohho
Turning to the Hhohho region, Siphocosini High School successfully secured their place in the national finals, reflecting the growing conpupils students there.
Their team’s victory, marked by composure and a strategic approach, underscores the competition’s role in fostering a deep appreciation for language and culture within the region
Lubombo
The Lubombo Region witnessed a closely contested final where Sibusisweni High School emerged victorious, securing their national finals berth with a 38-36 win against Ndzangu High School.
This success was a clear result of their dedicated training, particularly their emphasis on rapid responses and the significant advantage gained from extensive practice in the computer lab to enhance typing speed.
Shiselweni
The final regional champion to emerge was Ndabazezwe High School from the Shiselweni Region. After navigating a series of closely contested ties, their perseverance and strategic preparation ultimately secured their victory, earning them the esteemed honour of representing Shiselweni at the national finals on June 27, 2025.
The regional competitions served as a platform for significant advocacy for the siSwati language, with key figures observing the proceedings.
Nomphumelo Shabangu, a siSwati inspector, commended the initiative for its role in elevating the language’s profile, particularly highlighting the technological integration provided by Technosol. Miss Shabangu passionately urged pupils to actively engage with siSwati on social media to ensure its vibrancy; a call further supported by Machawe Dlamini, President of the Eswatini siSwati Teachers’ Association, who consistently emphasised the language’s integral role in national identity.
The upcoming national finals are set to be live-streamed on Imisebe Publishing’s digital platform, offering a wider audience the chance to witness young pupils’ linguistic prowess and their passion for siSwati.
As the competition advances, it not only celebrates academic excellence but also reinforces the importance of cultural pride and technological literacy among Eswatini’s youth.
