For many, the path to peace is often paved through connections with others. However, for Temalangeni Zamandulo Dlamini, a soft spoken 30-year-old, her deepest sense of belonging and transformation came from turning inward and upward, to a divine friendship.

This week, we explore Dlamini’s journey of finding solace in faith when the noise of the world became too overwhelming for her.

Dlamini describes herself as someone who has always been quiet. Having grown up as an only child, she lacked the natural companionship of siblings and often found it challenging to form friendships. “Most days, I felt alone, surrounded by people but still unseen and unheard,” she recalls.

This isolating experience meant the silence in her life became increasingly heavy, leading her to feel profoundly lost and deeply troubled. She admits there were moments when the stress felt simply too much to handle, and she didn’t know where to turn for help or guidance.

Her turning point came about two years ago. Amid that persistent loneliness and confusion, Dlamini made a conscious decision to turn to God. With nobody else to talk to, she resolved to make God her friend, her only friend. This resolution led her to begin communicating with Him through prayer. Unsure of what to expect, she spoke to God with  honesty, sharing everything that was truly in her heart.

Slowly, yet surely, something began to change. Dlamini started to feel a presence, a quiet, comforting and very real sense of God being near. She reflects that God ‘came through for me in ways I never imagined’. Where anxiety once reigned, she now found peace, and where fear had taken root, she discovered strength.

Dlamini clarifies that her problems did not miraculously disappear overnight, but God provided the help she needed to overcome them one by one. Through this experience, a realisation dawned on her: She was, in fact, never truly alone. God had been with her all along; she simply needed to open her heart to Him.

Dlamini’s journey with God since making Him her closest friend has been, in her own words, amazing. Her life has been transformed in ways she never thought possible, leaving her happier, more peaceful and content with both who she is and her future direction.

Whenever challenges arise, she no longer experiences that familiar feeling of isolation because she knows God is right beside her.

She states that God has proven time and again that He is faithful and loving. Dlamini’s deeply held conviction is that God truly comes through for those who seek Him wholeheartedly. She has learnt to trust that even when immediate circumstances don’t align with her desires, His plans are always better.

Having God as her best friend has filled her life with a hope, strength and joy that she believes no one else could ever provide.

To anyone who is still trying to find their path or is currently feeling lost and alone, Dlamini offers a heartfelt reminder that it’s perfectly acceptable to feel that way sometimes, but she encourages them not to give up.

Her final piece of advice is simple yet profound: “When you have no one else to lean on, lean on God.

She assures others that He is patiently waiting for them to call on Him and trust Him with their whole heart.”
