One of the things that landlords often struggle with is improving security for rental property occupants, particularly when it comes to installing CCTV cameras.
Given the way privacy laws work, can landlords even put-up security cameras in the first place? According to Samkeliso Makhubu, the Senior Housing Officer in the Ministry of Housing and Development, there is no law put in place disputing that landlords should not instal CCTV cameras on their properties.
“It is wise, though, that the landlord ensures this is solely for security and not violating the tenants’ privacy,” he advised.
