EZULWINI — Top international golfers tee off tomorrow, August 13, in the Sunshine Tour-sanctioned FNB Eswatini Golf Challenge at Ezulwini Golf Club.
Earlier today, professional golfers were seen putting in their final practice sessions, fine-tuning their swings on the greens ahead of the highly-anticipated opening round.
A formidable field of up to 138 golfers will battle it out over the coming days. Getting the tournament underway in the early morning conditions will be the trio of Rowan Lester, Dillon Germshuys and Eswatini’s very own Oscar Dube, who are scheduled to hit the first shots at 6:30am.
The field features professional and qualified amateur golfers competing in a three-round (54-hole) stroke play format. Preparations faced a minor setback earlier in the week when a planned two-day client/sponsor Pro-Am preceding the main competition was called off due to inclement weather. However, conditions are starting to clear, setting up a thrilling main event.
Standard Sunshine Tour regulations will apply throughout the tournament, with a decisive cut being made after round two. Only the top 50 players plus ties will advance to Saturday’s final round, earning the right to compete for a share of the E2.5 million official prize purse.
The champion will be crowned on Saturday after what promises to be a fierce battle on the fairway, walking away with a handsome top prize of E396 250. Adding local incentive to the high-stakes action, organisers have set aside a dedicated E60 000 pool specifically for outstanding emaSwati players competing in the field.
