NHLANGANO – A 21-year-old man of Jericho was remanded in custody for attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a police officer while attempting to effect his arrest.
According to information from the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS), a report of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was lodged on Monday after a 21-year-old man from Jericho allegedly attacked a complainant using a hammer.
The REPS stated that following an investigation into the incident, police officers based at the Jericho police post visited the suspect’s homestead at Tibondzeni on the morning of Tuesday with the intention of placing him under arrest.
The police service reported that while officers were attempting to effect the arrest, the suspect turned violent and allegedly stabbed one of the police officers multiple times with a spear.
According to REPS, the injured officer was subsequently rushed to hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries.
The police service confirmed that officers apprehended the 21-year-old suspect at the scene in Tibondzeni at approximately 7:40am following the attack.
According to information from REPS the suspect appeared before the court today to face formal charges of attempted murder in connection with the stabbing of the officer.
The Royal Eswatini Police Service further confirmed that during the court hearing, the accused was remanded in custody until Wednesday, August 19, 2026, pending further legal proceedings.
