EZULWINI — International delegates, agricultural experts and continental ministers have started arriving at the Ezulwini Palazzo International Convention Centre for the landmark African Union (AU) Extraordinary Seed Summit.

Security and protocol teams maintain a visible presence around the venue, managing smooth arrival and registration procedures for foreign dignitaries and local stakeholders gathering for this major continental event. The three-day summit brings together key policy makers, researchers and agri-business leaders from across Africa to shape the future of agricultural productivity, seed systems, and food security. His Majesty King Mswati III is expected to officially open the historic summit tomorrow, welcoming heads of delegation and declaring the proceedings underway.

As reported by the Times of Eswatini and highlighted in official announcements from the Ministry of Agriculture, the summit marks a decisive turning point in the push toward Africa’s complete food sovereignty. Convening under the theme “Resilient Seed Systems for a Food Secure Africa,” the gathering functions as a strategic platform designed to move past high-level policy declarations and secure concrete financial commitments for the continent’s seed sector.

Minister of Agriculture Mandla Tshawuka emphasizes that Eswatini hosts this event with a direct mission: guaranteeing that African farmers secure affordable, dependable access to high-quality, climate-resilient crop varieties.

Addressing severe climate disruptions across the continent stands at the heart of the summit’s agenda, with discussions focusing on scaling up drought-resistant seeds to fortify fragile food supply networks. Furthermore, the meeting aims to mobilise both private equity and public sector investment directly into African seed research, development, and distribution infrastructure. Through hosting this high-profile continental assembly, Eswatini positions itself as a growing hub for regional agricultural trade while displaying its local farming initiatives to international partners throughout the three days of technical sessions and ministerial panels.
